Founded in 1898, the Moscow Art Theatre opened with Tolstoy's Tsar Feodor Ivanovich. This theatre was the first to successfully
produce Chekhov's plays, and between 1898 and 1904 it performed The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, The Three sisters, and The Cherry
orchard, the plays upon which Chekhov's reputation primarily rests.
